AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Amid rising concerns over presence and activities of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in different parts of the country, an official in the Ministry of Interior (MoI) assured that Afghan security forces were fully capable to ward off the threat.
Seddiq Seddiqi, spokesman for the MoI, told Azadi Radio that Afghan security forces were ready to eliminate the terrorist group before reaching its nefarious objectives in Afghanistan.
“It is crystal clear that the ISIS is hell-bent on killing people of Afghanistan, but whoever they are and from wherever they have hailed from they will be eliminated. Security forces stand ready to tackle the terror group,” he said.
This came at a time that Uzbek fighters in Afghanistan recently swore allegiance to ISIS.
Some lawmakers also expressed concerns over the presence of ISIS in various parts of the country.
Nadir Khan Katawazi, a lawmaker, said that despite Afghanistan’s north, ISIS is active in different other parts of the country. He added that the security forces instead of fighting the Taliban should focus on tackling the international terrorist group.
Some military experts suggest that security forces should take drastic steps to ward off the ISIS threat before that the weather gets warmer.
