Security forces repel Taliban attack on Want Waigal

’45 Taliban insurgents including their seven commanders killed in attack’

AT-KABUL: The Afghan security and defense forces have repulsed a Taliban attack in Want Waigal district of eastern Nuristan province, officials on Thursday.

“Hundreds of Taliban insurgent attacked Want Waigal district last night (Wednesday night), but faced strong resistance from the Afghan forces,” the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a media statement.

Soon after the attack, the Afghan security forces started ground and air operations to tame Taliban insurgents and pushed them back from the district, the statement added.

According to the ministry, 45 Taliban fighters including seven commanders have been killed and 50 others received injuries in the repulsed attack of Afghan security forces.

Ammunition and vehicles belonged to the insurgents were also destroyed in the area.

The ministry added that the Taliban fighters have planned to bring Want Waigal district under their wings and from to control Kamdish, Bargmatal, Norgram, Mandol and Doab districts in the province.

Fortunately, the Taliban insurgents have failed to reach their evil goal, and badly defeated by the Afghan security forces, the statement underlined.
