AT-KABUL: Afghan security forces have retaken control of Kohistanat district of Sar-e-Pul province, said a local official.
Muhammad Asef Jabarkhel, the Police Chief of Sar-e-Pul province, said that security forces in cooperation with local people regained control of the center of the province around two days ago. The entire district has been cleared of the Taliban militants, he added.
The district fell to the Taliban militants around one month ago.
He said that security forces have inflected heavy casualties on the militants; however, he didn’t provide exact figures. There were no casualties to Afghan forces, he added.
It is worth mentioning that local people had warned the government of deterioration of security situation in the district before its collapse.
