Solar power project inaugurated in Kandahar

AT-KABUL: The work of biggest ever solar electricity project inaugurated in southern Kandahar province on Sunday.

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), the electricity supply plant has started the work on a project to produce 10mw solar power in order to solve electricity shortage in Kandahar industrial parks, said DABS in a statement.

This project will be implemented by DABS and Dynasty Indian international investment company, added statement.

CEO Abdullah and other high ranking officials of the government have attended the inaugural ceremony in Kandahar.

Statement said that the project will total cost $20 million, which out of $10 million will be funded by USAID and the rest, will be donated by Dynasty Indian International Investment Company.

The project will be completed in August 2018 and accordance to the agreement the produced power will be distributed to the DABS by the Dynasty company and will receive its money, mentioned the statement.

Statement said that DABS will buy each kw-electricity per-hour for 7.3 cent for 15 years, noted statement. After 15 years the project will be submitted to the DABS without any charges.

This project will solve energy shortage in Kandahar industrial park, underlined the statement.
