AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Provincial officials of eastern Nangarhar province have said that at least 951 have been detained over various crimes last year across the province, provincial officials said.
Provincial Police Spokesman, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, told Pajhwok Afghan News 596 criminal cases were registered last year at the police headquarters.
The charges against detainees were included of drug smuggling, kidnapping, armed robberies, armed activities and others criminal activities.
Mashriqiwal added, total of 951 suspects were detained and most of them referred to judicial organs in connection with the 596 cases. He also praised the efforts of the well-trained and equipped Afghan police forces in curbing crimes in the province.
Nangarhar Provincial Council Member, Obaidullah Shinwari, slammed government for always claiming achievements. He said that crimes in the province are getting increase day by day instead of decreasing.
Nangarhar residents said powerful individuals are still committing crimes because they are enjoying impunity. According to them, security forces lacked courage to arrest powerful wings in the province.
A resident of Jalalabad city, Gul Agha, said, “all the individuals, arrested by the police were ordinary people and didn’t committee serious crimes.
Police is the frontline and judicial organs are the foundation to overcome all types of crimes and violation of law. Everyone is equal before law and law should be implemented equally on weak and powerful individuals to make sure easy justice for all at their doorstep.
