AT-KABUL: A suicide bomber targeted a volleyball playground today evening in southeastern Paktika province, leaving 12 people death and more than 40 injured, provincial officials said.
The suicide bomber detonated his explosives near to hundreds of spectators of the volleyball match that was organized in Khairkot district of Paktika province.
“Initial report suggest that 12 people have been killed and more than 40 injured” a security official, who did not want to be named told Afghanistan Times.
Children were also among the casualties the source said, adding hundreds of people, mostly young boys, were present in the playground during the attack.
Another provincial official who was not authorized to speak to media said that injured were already shifted to provincial hospital and they were looking to shift the victims with more injures in helicopters to capital Kabul for treatment.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, soon after the attack denied their hand behind the incident. He said Taliban had no plan of any attack in that area today.
Last year in November a suicide attack on volleyball match in another district of the same province killed around 60 spectators. Afghan government later said the Haqqani terrorist network was behind that attack.
