By FarhadNaibkhel-KABUL: Taliban staged massive assaults on Tala-wa-Barfak district of northern Baghlan province and Bilchiragh district of northern Faryab province on Tuesday evening, said provincial officials, and Tala-wa-Barfak district has fallen to the Taliban.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in a statement confirmed the collapse of Tala-wa-Barfak district of Baghlan.
The district collapsed after fierce clashes and exchange of fire between the assailants and the Afghan security forces, said Baghlan Police Spokesman ZabihullahShoja. The district is located in southeastern Baghlan and borders Bamyan province.
Provincial Council Head Safdar Mohsini said the Taliban attacked 54 police officers and 70 security personnel in the district, who escaped to mountains after the clashes.
Seven Afghan forces were killed and seven othershave been taken, he added.
He said that districts often fall to the Taliban following lack of reinforcements which will then be retaliated with aerial bombardments by Afghan Air Forces.
On the other hand, Abdul BaqiHashimi Provincial Council Member of Faryab said the Taliban attacked Bilcheragh district of Faryab on Tuesday evening and engaged in a fierce firefight with the Afghan forces. He said that some 50 Taliban fighters under the command of Mullah Dadullah were killed and wounded in the clashes.
Bilchiragh district is 35km far from the capital of Faryab province and the Taliban were largely present in that area a few months and the district had lost its connection to the provincial capital because of insecurity.
