AT-KABUL: Afghan forces have successfully cleared the Bagh-e-Pul district of the western province of Farah from Taliban insurgents and destroyed their main hideouts, security officials said Saturday.
Provincial police chief, Mohammad Ghaws Malyar, said that clashes are underway in different area of Barangtot, Deh Yak and Shor Abad in the provincial capital to push Taliban back insurgents form the city.
He said Taliban insurgents have been defeated in Bagh-e Pul area and had retreated about one kilometer from the area.
Malyar added that more than a hundred insurgents were killed during clashes with security forces and the areas which were under their control have been cleared.
This comes as Taliban insurgents attempt to capture the provincial capital.
Meanwhile, a number of residents welcomed the security forces’ efforts at a gathering in the province.
