AT-KABUL: Commenting on the release of Mullah Omar’s biography by the Taliban insurgents in such a time when the war is coming to a close and Daesh is appearing in the country, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that it’s a part of their psychological warfare and a media gimmick.
Seddiq Seddiqi, a spokesman for the MoI, told journalists in a press conference on Sunday that the Taliban by such propagandas want to prove their presence in Afghanistan.
“Afghan security forces stand ready to suppress all militant groups including the Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS),” he said.
Hinting at Zulfiqar military offensive in southern Helmand province, Seddiqi said that it was one of most large-scale operations conducted by Afghan security forces. “The ANSF inflected heavy casualties on the militants,” he added.
He said that around 500 insurgents have been killed in the offensive. “Security forces also recovered 1683 landmines, 2500 kilogram explosive materials and huge amount of drugs during the operation,” Seddiqi went on as saying.
The MoI said that security forces have recently conducted 12 other military offensives against militants in different other parts of the country.
This came at a time that recently the Taliban militants have intensified their activities across the country.
