AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Taliban militants are collecting usher and zakat in northern Baghlan province in order to finance their war against the Afghan government.
Local people said that Dand-e-Ghori, Baghlan Markazi and Borka districts of the province are currently under the Taliban’s control, where they force people into paying them usher and zakat.
A number of residents of the province have come to Pol-e-Khomri, the center of the province, to lodge their complaints. They urged the government to give them rid of the Taliban. “The Taliban force us to pay them usher and zakat. Our villages are being attacked almost on daily basis,” said a resident of Dand-e-Ghori district to Azadi Radio. He added that the Taliban are also recruiting people in the district.
Another resident of the district said that the militants don’t let them to work in their lands.
General Abdul Jabar Prdeli, police chief of Baghlan province, said that they have conducted large-scale operations against militants in the province. He added that security forces are ready to launch more offensives in order to clear the province from presence of militants.
He confirmed that the Taliban are collecting usher and zakat form people in militancy-infested areas.
