Taliban shadow district chief killed in Badakhshan

AT-KABUL: The Taliban shadow district chief for Jurm was killed along with his colleagues in a brief clash with the security forces in the northeastern province of Badakhsan, a security official said Tuesday.

Provincial police spokesman Mahfuzullah Akbari said that the Taliban insurgents launched a coordinated attack on security checkpoint late Monday.

“The insurgent was identified as Mullah Hafiz,” he added.

He added no casualties for the security forces were reported.

The shadow district chief and his fighters were involved in different terror and subversive activities in the province, Akbari asserted.

Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report.

Dozens of Taliban insurgents including high commanders have been killed since the militants announced his spring offensive.

A senior leader of a Pakistani Taliban group Azam Tariq was killed along with his son and nine others in eastern Paktika province on Saturday, the group’s sources said.
