Taliban shoot dead district police chief in Laghman

AT-KABUL: A district police chief was killed in a Taliban attack in Laghman province, officials said Tuesday.

“Inayatullah Himmat, police chief of the Do-Ab district in Nuristan province came under attack this morning while on his way home in Kabul,” said Col Mohammad Farooq, provincial police chief for the adjacent Laghman province.

“The Taliban attacked Himmat in Badiabad area of Alingar district at around 7:30am,” Farooq said. He added that Himmat was killed after a short fire exchange.

Laghman governor spokesman Sarhadi Zwak confirmed the attack, saying that district police chief came under attack when he was travelling in a private car.

“One of the Taliban attackers was killed and a bodyguard of the district police chief injured in the clash,” Zwak added.

Taliban have not yet comment on the shootout.
