Taliban should avoid repeating mistakes made in the past

Kabul: In an interview with TRT TV, Zalmi Khalilzad, the former US special representative for Afghanistan affairs, criticized the Taliban and said, “They are making some serious mistakes that we have seen in the last 40 years.”

In this interview, the former US representative in Afghanistan asked the Taliban to talk with different parts of the Afghan society and focus on improving service delivery.

Although Khalilzad avoid calling for “formation of an inclusive government” like “Tom West” and other American officials, he instead insisted on respecting the views of a broader Afghan society.

Khalilzad’s statements come at a time when the American forces withdrew from Afghanistan after 20 years of military presence, leaving a huge economic and humanitarian mess in the country.
