“Taliban waging social media war”

AT News

KABUL: The US Charge d’ Affaires in Kabul Ian McCary says that Taliban insurgents threaten the people of Afghanistan on the social media by using violent propaganda.

McCary said Saturday that Taliban use violent propaganda to attack Afghans.

“Taliban use hatred and violent literature on the social media to intimidate, threaten and attack Afghans,” he said.

However, the US diplomat said that “violence and terror” cannot bring peace.

McCary had said on Friday that Taliban are trying to hide their violence by silencing the mass media.

“It seems that they (Taliban) are trying to hide destroying of infrastructures, looting and killing of soldiers and civilians by silencing the media outlets.”

The Taliban reject this statement.

The US officials have frequently accused Taliban of carelessness to the human rights and the rights of the people of Afghanistan after videos showing militants destroying government offices went viral.

The Human Rights Watch had said last year that there are severe restrictions imposed in the Taliban-ruled areas. It had said that the rights of girls and women are especially violated by the insurgents.
