Taliban’s shadow district chief killed in Baghlan

AT-KABUL: The Taliban shadow district chief for Baglan-e-Markazi was killed along with 15 other insurgent in a clash with the security forces in the northern province of Baghlan, security officials said Wednesday, while 25 militants wounded.

The interior ministry said in a statement that the Taliban insurgents launched a coordinated attack on security checkpoint in Niazullah area late Tuesday.

“The shadow district chief was identified as Salam Uzbek,” the statement added.

The shadow district chief and his fighters were involved in different terror and subversive activities in the province, statement noted.

Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report.

Dozens of Taliban insurgents including commanders have been killed since the militants announced his spring offensive across the country. A senior leader of a Pakistani Taliban group Azam Tariq was killed along with his son and nine others in eastern Paktika province earlier last week, the group’s sources said.
