Taliban’s shadow district chief killed in Herat clash

KABUL: Taliban shadow district chief for the Awba district of western Herat province along with his eight fighters were killed in a clash, official said Friday. 

Police Chief Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban launched a group attack on Awba district centre on Thursday night which was repulsed by security forces.

He said Mullah Matin Khadem, the Taliban district chief for Awba district, and seven other assailants were killed in the attack.

One policeman and Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier were killed and six other security personnel injured in the attack.

However, the Taliban Spokesman Qari Yusof Ahmadi claimed three security personnel were killed and six others injured during an attack on a check-post in Awba district.
