Taliban’s shadow governor for Helmand killed

AT-KABUL: The Taliban’s shadow governor for Helmand province was killed along with the group’s military commander for the province during an airstrike carried out by the US military in the Nad Ali district of the province, officials said Tuesday.

“Mullah Abdurahim and the military commander were killed in Zarghon village,” provincial office said in a statement.

The statement said that they were planning and leading conflict to capture Nad Ali distric.

Heavy clashes are going on in Nad Ali between Taliban and Afghan security forces for three days that has so far left 49 Taliban killed in the district, the statement added.

Afghan forces are well prepared to repel Taliban in the district, noted the statement.

On the other hand, 114 Taliban fighters were killed and 67 other were wounded during clashes with security forces in different district of Helmand province in the past three days.

Taliban commander including Pakistani fighters were among killed insurgents.

Taliban suffered casualties extensively through ground and air raids, while tens of Taliban attacked on different district of Helmand including Nawzad, Garmsir and Nad Ali districts.
