Taliban’s shadow judge arrested in Takhar

AT-KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Saturday said that the Taliban’s shadow judge and mayor for Darqad district were arrested along with 12 militants in northern Takhar province.

In a press statement issued here, the NDS said that its operatives managed to arrest the Taliban’s shadow judge, mayor and 12 militants in an operation launched in Darqad district of Takhar province.

The shadow judge was identified as Najeeb-ur-Rahman and mayor as Mullah Sahkorm. The arrested militants were involved in subversive activities and receiving extortion from the residents. They were forcing poor people in the district to pay extortion which the militant group term alms.

Twelve rocket-propelled grenades of RPG-7 and one each AK47 and RDP were recovered during the operation, the statement said.
