Terrorist network busted in Kandahar; 20 insurgents killed in raids

AT-KABUL: A network consisting of twelve terrorists has been busted in a string of crackdown operations in southern Kandahar city by the intelligence special forces.

Afghan intelligence operatives have arrested 12 Taliban fighters in Kandahar city, said a press statement issued by National Directorate of Security. The terrorist group was involved in different subversive terrorist activities in the province.

The network was also behind assassination of a number of religious and tribal elders and orchestrated some attacks in the province. They have also killed five people during the past three months, said the statement. A cache of ammunition has also been seized and further investigations are underway to ascertain their sources, underlined the statement.

In another report, at least 20 militants were killed and 22 others wounded in different crackdowns within past 24 hours.  In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense, (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal has conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Ghazni, Logar, Farah, Takhar, Faryab, Balkh, Baghlan, Nimroz and Helmand provinces.

Statement said that in these operations 20 insurgents were killed and 22 others wounded.

The joint Afghan operation was supported by airstrike.

During these operations in the past 24 hours, 18 Taliban fighters were killed and 21 others wounded in Pashtonkot district and two insurgents killed and one wounded in Balablok district of Faryab province.

In past 24 hours, 16 planed clearing operations, 21 Special Forces operations conducted in 15 provinces; also, Air forces conducted 23 aerial operations supporting Afghan National army including strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANA discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.
