By Akhtar M. Nikzad-KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani inaugurated newly-built building of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) here on Monday.
The ceremony was attended by top military braces, where the president commended the capabilities of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).
He said that Afghan forces were fighting enthusiastically against the enemy and they have gained many victories against militants.
Ghani appreciated the sacrifices rendered by Afghan security forces and said that the ANSF stood ready to defend their country.
He rejected the reports regarding delay in military operations of the ANSF and said that Afghan forces were conducting 15 military offensives against militants on daily basis.
He said that Afghan forces were also faced with a psychological warfare. President Ghani urged people to lend their support to security forces.
He expressed gratitude to the United States and Germany for their financial assistance in the construction of the building.
The acting Minister of Defense, Masoom Stankzai, said that despite the challenges Afghan forces were making progress on many fronts. He added that security forces didn’t have enough equipment and hoped that Afghanistan would have a well equipped army in future.
He stressed on international cooperation in fight against militancy and said Afghan forces could not defeat global terrorism on their solo basis.
The building is constructed at the total cost of $200 million with $152 million funded by the US and $48 million by Germany.
