AT-KABUL: In the wake of elevated concerns over fraudulent parliamentary and district council elections set for October 20, three people have been detained on charges of putting stickers on 21 fake identity cards in central Parwan province, an official said.
It was April 14 that voter registration process was kicked off around the country, but since that the process has been marred with plenty of challenges.
The biggest issue was having stickers in the copy of ID cards where later called off by the Independent Election Commission, where according to them, it is for those who are under threat of the militants.
Another thing is insecurity. There are several voter registration centers in several provinces that remained closed due to ongoing conflict and insecurity.
Waheeda Shahkar, the governor spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the three people had brought fake ID cards to a voter registration center in Bagram district.
They were arrested by police personnel with the cooperation of National Directorate of Security (NDS) agents on Monday morning.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) chief for Parwan, Abdul Qahir Wahab Safi, confirmed the incident and said so far 20 people had been held for the same crime.
