Three Indicted On Ancient Relics Smuggling Charge

KABUL: Officials in the central Bamyan province said that three people have been detained on charges of smuggling ancient relics in the province.

Provincial Police in a statement said that the perpetrators were arrested in a security checkpoint in Aqrabat area of the province.  

Police confiscated precious and ancient relics from the perpetrators, the statement said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Bamyan is one of the historic provinces of Afghanistan that holds a well-known record for its historic places, including the historic status of Buddha of Bamyan.  

Smuggling ancient relics by the powerful individual is a great challenge against the government to overcome as Afghanistan is struggling with insecurity across the country.
