Top al-Qaeda loyalist killed in Helmand

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: A senior al-Qaedaloyalist along with six affiliates of the extremist network was killed on Monday night during an operation of the Afghan army in southern Helmand, the army Special Force Corps said on Tuesday.

Afghan army special forcescarried out a crackdown against al-Qaeda terrorist network fighters in Garmsir district, killing a high ranking member along with six other network’s affiliates, Abdul Qaiom Nuristani Spokesman for Army Special Operation Corps told to Afghanistan Times.

He said that the killed high ranking Al-Qaeda member named Abdul Rahim Al-Mesri, who was the one of most senior member of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and the region.

He said that this top member was also responsible for contacting Al-Qaeda members in Pakistan and some other countries.

Two Pakistani women were also arrested during operation in the area.

Meanwhile Army Special Operation Corps in a statement confirmed killing of Al-Qaeda top member in Helmand said that Abdul Rahim Al-Mesri was killed along with six other member of the extremist network during operation in KhonBibi area of Garmsir district by army special forces on Sunday night.

Statement said that two Pakistani female were also arrested during crackdown.

Four rifles of AK-47, one pistol, three wirelesses, four mobile, eight laptop computers, 21 hard discs, 19 flash disc along with some documents such as passports, Tazkira, guide book for making mine discovered and seized by Afghan forces, added statement.

Also eight rifles of AK-47, three rockets, six grenade bombs, one explosive vest and a mine making factory were detonate by Afghan forces in the area during operation, underlined the statement.
