Top US envoys Praised Renewal UNAMA’s Mandate

KABUL: The two top envoys of the US for Afghanistan on their Twitter pages has welcomed the renewal of the UNAMA’s mandate in Afghanistan.

Washington’s special envoy for Afghan women, Rina Amiri, and the US Chargé d’Affaires, Ian McCary, suggested that the UNAMA mission wa important as Afghanistan is facing severe economic and humanitarian crises.

“I welcome the Security Council’s adoption of a new mandate for UNAMA. The Security Council took an important step yesterday to underscore the importance of the UN’s continued work in Afghanistan as the country navigates a pivotal moment in its history,” McCary said on Twitter.  

“Grateful to Afghan women and UNSC partners, whose collective advocacy and leadership helped shape a strong UNAMA mandate that promotes the human rights of all Afghans,” Rina Amiri, the US special envoy for Afghan women said in a tweet.   

The UN Security Council on Thursday extended the mandate of UNAMA for a period of 12 months. 

Naseer Ahmad Faiq, the charges d’affaires at the Afghan mission to the UN, said that UNAMA would continue its mission in consultation with the Afghan elites in the country. 

“UNAMA will continue its mission in close consultation with the Afghan political players and current authorities to support the people of Afghanistan,” he said.
