Traffic accident leaves seven dead in Badakhshan

AT-KABUL: At least seven people died and 13 others wounded in a traffic accident in northeastern Badakhshan province, local officials said Monday.

The accident took place early morning when a passenger bus collided with a trailer in the Faizabad-Keshm highway, said Masoud Arshad, provincial police spokesman.

“At least seven people including a driver died and 13 others were wounded in the accident.”

The injuries were taken to Faizabad hospital and they are in a good health condition, he said.

This comes as at least 30 Afghans died and 56 others wounded in two separate traffic accidents in western Farah and Herat provinces Sunday.

Traffic accidents are not unusual in Afghanistan; annually hundreds of people die in traffic accidents on highways across the country – mostly as the result of unpaved roads, high speeds and carelessness while driving.

The traffic accident reminds the second deadliest incident after the fighting in the country.
