Transfer of election materials to provinces complete: IEC

KABUL: The Independent Election Commission (IEC) says it has completed the transfer of the electoral materials to all 34 provinces and has started transporting them to the districts.
The parliamentary and district council elections are to be held on October 20, and the election commission said Sunday that it was fully prepared to hold the elections on time with no delays.
It added all the operative affairs relating to election including the biometric system were completed and all the material would be transported to districts by Friday, October 19.
Sayed Hafizollah Hashemi, spokesman of the commission said security measures were adopted to transfer electoral materials to the districts.
However, candidates and their rallies have come under several attacks that have caused concerns among people for security situation on the day of election. The candidates ask the government to take tighter security measures for the election.
Meanwhile, members of senate also expressed concerns over security condition during the day of election and called on the security bodies to make serious steps to prevent terrorist attacks.
233,514 national and international monitors have so far received cards to overview the election process, according to the independent election commission.
