Twin bombings killed 24, injured 91 in Kabul

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Twin bombings near to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in Kabul, the capital city killed at least 24 people and wounded around 91 others, officials said.

Two suicide bombers detonated their explosives in front of the entrance of the (MoD) around 3:30 when the ministry staffers were leaving offices.

Public Health Ministry Spokesman, Sayed Ismail Kawasi said that 24 people were killed and 91 others received injuries as a result of today’s (Monday) blasts in Kabul.

There are paradoxes reports regarding tool of casualties between MoPH and security organs.

Deputy Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Mohammad Radmanish, said that according to initial report nine people were killed and over 30 others wounded after twin suicide bombers detonated their explosive vests near to the ministry‘s gate.

“First suicide attack occurred near Yak Paisagi Bridge. Soon after blast, security forces reached the area to help wounded people while second suicide bomber exploded his explosives in the spot,” he said. Despite police and army forces, the civilians are also among those who killed and wounded in the attack, he added.

Radmanish also confirmed that General Abdul Razaq, the commander of the Supportive Regiment of the Ministry of Defense, and Sayed Zaman, police chief for PD2 are also among killed people.

Moreover, some reports said that General Mohammad Zaman Ahmadzai, Deputy Head of President Protective Service (PPS) and Mawlana Sadeq, the operational chief of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) were also among those killed in the blasts.

The Ministry of Interior Spokesman Sediq Seddiqi, said more than 20 people were killed and over 50 others wounded. “Security forces are also among casualties.”

Furthermore, Public Health Ministry said that Kabul, Army and Police ambulances rushed to the area shortly after the blasts and shifted wounded people to the hospitals.

The attack took place in a crowded area of the city, where beside casualties, public vehicles were also damaged in the incident.

President Ashraf Ghani condemned the Kabul deadly attack in strongest and possible terms, saying that terrorist groups attempt to reach their ominous goals by spreading fear and carrying out terrorist attacks.

President Ghani added: “The enemies of Afghanistan have lost their ability to fight the Security and Defense Forces of the country and thus attack highways, cities, mosques, schools and common people.”

The President offers his sympathies and condolences to the families of those martyred, wishes quick recovery to those wounded, and prays to Almighty Allah to grant the highest place in paradise to those martyred today (Monday).

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that his group had carried out the attack.

He also claimed that important officer and commander of the Defense Ministry killed and wounded in the attack. According to the group, the suicide attack was carried out by Khalil-ul-Rahman Kandahari.

Former President Hamid Karzai also condemned the Kabul terrorist attack in strongest and possible terms that killed and wounded a number of countrymen on Monday.

In a statement issued by his office, Karzai termed the attack against all Islamic and human principles. “The attack was carried by enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.”

He prays to Almighty Allah to grant the highest place in paradise to those martyred today (Monday). He also offered his sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and wished rapid recovery to those wounded in the attack.
