KABUL: At least 26 Taliban fighters, including two commanders of the group have been killed in separate operations carried out in northern Jawzjan and Faryab provinces.
A press statement issued by 209 Shaheen Military Corps said Sunday that 21 Taliban fighters, including two key commanders of the group and three Uzbekistani militants were killed in Jawzjan province.
According to the statement, Qari Amanullah and Qari Agha Nazar two key commanders of the Taliban along with three Uzbek insurgents and 16 fighters were killed and seven others wounded during clashes with the Afghan security forces in Moradian district of Jawzjan.
The clashes erupted at 2:00am on Saturday local time and continued till 5:00am, after the Taliban attacked their check points in Moradian district.
Four Afghan security forces were also killed and three others wounded during clashes in the district, the military corps lamented.
Similarly, five Taliban rebels were killed, six strongholds and two depots of the enemy destroyed by Afghan security forces during operation conducted on Saturday night in Almar district of Faryab province.
