AT-KABUL: Failing once again to elect the second deputy speaker, the Wolesi Jirga, the parliament house, on Monday elected Abdul Rauf Inami as the secretary of the house.
Inami was elected as the Wolesi Jirga’s secretary by collecting 104 votes and Sayid Ikram by obtaining 57 failed to be elected as secretary of the assembly.
MP from Nangarhar, Sayid Ikram; Badakhshan MP, Abdul Rauf Inami; Zabul MP, Abdul Qadir Qalatwal and representative of Kochi tribe, Hila Irshadi, contested for the secretary slot in Sunday’s election. But none of them could win the required of votes and the election went to a second round between Sayid Ikram with 39 votes and Inami with 85 votes.
The election for the deputy speaker position again did not end with a clear winner. The previous contest for the slot was held a day earlier between Mohammad Saleh Saljoqi and Sayid Ali Kazimi.
In the meantime, contesters like Mohammad Arif Rahmani from Ghazni, Farhad Azimi from Balkh, Ghulam Farooq Majroh from Herat and Mohammad Sarwar Fayez from Badghis on Monday failed to collect the required votes to be elected as the deputy speaker.
Wolesi Jirga speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said that the new round of voting to elect the deputy speaker would take place among new contenders today (Tuesday)
