AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), a state-run electricity supplying company, on Sunday said that teams were busy in restoring power supply to eastern Laghman and Nangarhar provinces after the religious scholars and local elders succeeded in convincing the Taliban to allow the technical teams to repair the transmission lines.
Nangarhar province faced worst blackout in the decade when the Taliban insurgents cut the electricity transmission line in Uzbin area of Sarobi district, nearly 10 days ago. Though, Sarobi district is part of Kabul province, but the area is mostly insecure.
Residents of Jalalabad City, the capital of Nangarhar province, held protest demonstration urging the government to restore the electricity supply as the temperature has already increased due to dry weather.
The provincial power director in Nangarhar, Muhib Rahman Momand, told a local news agency that tribal chiefs and religious scholars of Laghman province and Sarobi district played important role in enabling them to repair the transmission lines.
He said that a delegation of the tribal elders and ulema had been sent to the area to hold talks with the insurgents to allow the technical team to repair the damaged lines. The team had arrived in the area nearly 4:00 am on Sunday morning.
