Would-be suicide bombers held in Nangarhar

AT-KABUL: Two would-be suicide bombers who planned to carry out attack on a police check post in Jalalabad city were arrested in eastern Nangarhar province, said the National Directorate of Security (NDS) the other day.

The NDS said in a statement that both of the would-be suicide attackers were from eastern parts of the country who had received assignment from a Taliban commander, Harun, to target police in Jalalabad city.

The source added that one of the would-be suicide bombers recognized as Abadullah alias Omar is from Kamdesh district of eastern Nuristan province, and the other, Shah Mahmud alias Hamza is from Bati Kot district of the eastern Nangarhar province where the attack was planned.

According to the statement, the attack was planned to be carried out with the assistance of a Mazda vehicle, laden with explosives.

The source also said that the attackers had planned a coordinated attack at the police of 1st district of Jalalabad city also using weapons.

Nangarhar is among comparatively safe provinces in east but most recently it has experienced an increase in terrorist attacks. Last week a provincial council member was attacked and then an Afghan National Army (ANA) troop was hanged in public in this province.
