AT-KABUL: The Former Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul, with his two Vice Presidents on Tuesday registered for the forthcoming “Presidential Election” set for July 20.
I have come forward to run for presidency with the motto of remaining committed for unity, justice, security and peace, he told newsmen after finished registration process. He said to struggle for democracy, peace and security.
Pointing over rigging in recent parliamentary election, he said “this is the duty of Independent Election Commission (IEC) to run a fair, free and transparent election in a bid to protect people’s vote.”
He called on IEC to discharge its obligation honestly and transparently in order to safeguard people’s right to vote. Talking over postponement of presidential election, Rassoul said gaining peace is priority for them.
Rassoul was born in 1942 in Kabul and served as Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation in 2002, as Chairman of National Security Council from 2002-2010, and as Minister of Foreign Affairs from January 2010 to October 2013.
