Kunduz journalists ask for aids to displaced people

AT-KABUL: A number of journalists from the war-ravaged province of Kunduz in a meeting with the former president Hamid Karzai in Kabul, asked for “urgent aids” to the people who have fled their houses during the week-long clashes.

“The journalists also hoped a widespread peace,” Karzai’s office said in a statement.

Kunduz has been the scene of bloody conflicts since Taliban insurgents overran the provincial capital last Monday.

Thousands of people left their houses for the neighboring provinces of Baghlan, Takhar and Balkh.

Recent reports say that Taliban were driven back by the security forces, while army and police are launching clearance operations in the city.

A peaceful northern province in the past, Kunduz has become an insecure area and a number of its districts are under Taliban control.
