KABUL: Muqtader Omari, an Afghan national got the chance to study in Harvard University after seven years.
He received the scholarship as no Afghan had been able to achieve it in the last seven years.
Omari 18 completed his primary education in the Afghan-Turk high school in Kabul.
He said, about 60,000 students applied for the scholarship this year, but he topped the applicants. “I was fortunate to be the second top among all the people who took part in the exam. I was selected to political science and astrology faculty of Harvard University,” he said.
“Besides taking preparation for the scholarship, we were doing talk science, means say knowledge during school time which had more than 250 participants, we were trying to connect Afghan youth with scholars abroad, we gave information to the people regarding COVID-19, I won a gold medal in physics and a bronze medal in chemistry at the UNESCO competitions.”
The non-existence of Student Aptitude Test (SAT) center in Afghanistan, lack of books and other materials made it difficult for students to receive the scholarship.
Harvard is one of the best and oldest university in the US, established in 1636, Leading figures and former US presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, John Adams, Tanodor Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt and some Nobel laureates studied at the university.
Harvard university got first ranking in 2021 among all the private universities of the world.
