KABUL: Moeed Yusuf, National Security Advisor to Pakistani Prime Minister arrived in Kabul on Saturday at the head of a delegation to discuss a broad range of issues with the Taliban.
A Taliban official confirmed Moeed’s visit, saying he would discuss various issues with Taliban officials.
Yusuf had earlier told Pakistani media that his visit to Kabul was aimed at discussing with the Taliban about extension of the fencing along the de facto Durand Line, deepening of political and economic relations and continuation of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan as the country is suffering from its worst humanitarian crisis amid economic crash.
About two weeks ago, Pakistani national security advisor’s visit to Kabul was canceled, with Pakistani officials citing bad weather in Afghanistan.
Demonstrations began in Kabul before Moeed Yusuf had plans to travel to Kabul, and protesters called on the Taliban not to allow the Pakistani delegation’s plane to land at the airport.
But the Taliban later arrested and imprisoned a number of demonstrators.
