KABUL: A Russian company will help rebuild Salang Tunnel which is a major route linking Central Asia to south Asia. The tunnel has been in shambles for the past decade as it serves as the only dilapidated route for heavy cargo to northern Afghanistan.
An Afghan-Russian construction company is in talks with Taliban to start rebuilding the crucial pass. In a meeting with Taliban’s Public Works Minister Mullah Mohammad Issa Sani, Chief of Afghan-Russian Company Rahim Sulaiman reiterated the corporation’s readiness to start working on the mega project.
Many discussions have taken place with the Afghan-Russian Company surrounding the technicalities and budget for the project which would include construction of drainage system, repairing of electricity system and tunnel ceiling.
Pointing to the provision of foreign and domestic companies with investment and job opportunities inside the country, the Chief of the company Sulaiman appreciated the relevant officials of the Islamic Emirate, the statement further said, adding that the company based on a contract with the ministry has complete readiness in the reconstruction of the tunnel.
“The Islamic Emirate was always committed to the restoration and reconstruction of the economic and transit highways and public roads of the country, in which practical steps have been taken by the Ministry of Public Work in this regard,” the statement added.
