137 insurgents killed in raids

AT-KABUL: At least 137 militants have been killed and 96 others received injuries in different crackdowns of the Afghan security forces within past 24 hours, security officials said on Monday.

In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense (MoD), said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Kapisa, Paktia, Paktika, Ghazni, Kandahar, Badghis, Baghlan, Farah, Sar-e-Pul, Balkh, Faryab, Nimroz, Urzgan and Helmand provinces, in which 137 Taliban, including three commanders and six Daesh affiliates were killed, and 96 others were wounded.

In addition to that, seven insurgents were also arrested during operations and handed over to the judicial organs for further inquiry, the statement added.

During operations, in Chamtal districts of Balkh province, 42 insurgents were killed, 29 others wounded and seven others arrested. In Dehrawod district of Uruzgan, 25 insurgents were killed and 38 others wounded. In Zanakhan, Gilan, Giro, Andar and center of Ghazni province, 20 insurgents killed and one injured. In Janikhil districts of Paktia, 17 rebels were killed and four other wounded, the statement added.

Similarly, in Gomal district of Paktiak, four insurgents were killed, one other wounded. In Sherintagab, Ghormach and Khwoaja Sabzposh districts of Faryab, seven Taliban fighters, including two local commanders were killed, and 11 others wounded. In Khashroad district of Nimroz, nine rebels were killed, and six others wounded. Also five insurgents including one commander were killed and six others wounded in Bakwah highway in Farah. Moreover, six Daesh fighters were also killed in Achin district of Nangarhar province, the statement furthered.

In the past 24 hours, 16 planed clearing operations, 22 special operations and one night raids conducted in 13 provinces; also, Air Forces conducted 115 aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army, including 21 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries, the statement added.

According to statement, the ANA also discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition belonging to the insurgents during the operations.
