AT-KABUL: At least 196 armed Taliban fighters were killed and 91 others were wounded in different crackdowns within past 48 hours.
In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) has conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different parts of Paktia, Faryab, Urzgan, Helmand, Logar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz and Kabul provinces. In these operations 189 rebels were killed and 88 others injured.
A Taliban commander, identified as Mullah Khaksar, three Taliban shadow district chiefs and nine foreign militants were among the killed.
According to the statement, 13 ANA soldiers were also killed in the line of duty.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior in a statement said that seven Taliban fighters were killed and three others were wounded in different districts of Zabul and Helmand provinces.
Ten insurgents were also arrested in the crackdowns by ANP and ANA. The detained militants were handed over to the relevant judicial body for interrogation.
