AT-KABUL: Some 260 Taliban fighters have been killed and 213 others were injured during operations in the southern province of Uruzgan, defense ministry said Monday.
These insurgents were killed and wounded during the ground and air attacks by Afghan forces in the past five days, the ministry said in a statement.
Tens of Taliban attacked Trinkot city, the provincial capital, where shortly after the attack, additional forces arrived from Kandahar and imposed heavy casualties on Taliban, the statement added.
It said that senior Taliban commanders Mullah Abdul Mannan, Mullah Abdul Bari, Mullah Rashed, Tor Khaled and Mullah Ashraf were also among the dead.
Security forces established security belts around Trinkot in order to prevent attacks on the center of the province, noted the statement.
Statement said that clearance operation by Afghan forces going on in outskirt area of Trinkot.
On the other hand National Directorate of Security (NDS) said that an Al-Qaeda network busted in southern Zabul province.
Spy agency operatives succeeded to kill five Pakistani terrorist and bust an Al-Qaeda network during special operation in Mezan district of Zabul.
Two suicide vests, one PK, five grenade bombs, one machine gun left in battle site also seized by intelligence operatives, underlined the statement.
