Afghanistan not harboring terrorists as assets: Envoy

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghanistan ambassador to Islamabad Omar Zakhilwal has said that the killing of top Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader in Afghanistan had proved that Afghanistan was not in business of harboring terrorists as ‘assets’.

“Killing of top TTP commander Azam Tariq in an operation by Afghan security forces in Paktika is yet another proof that Afghanistan is not in business of harboring terrorists as ‘assets’, regardless of who they intend to target; and does not distinguish between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ of them,” he said in a statement.

“In fact, to date, every TTP leader of any importance has been killed by our security or/and coalition forces from Afghanistan. Azam Tariq was currently ranked as the 4th most important TTP leader and Pakistan had put about 200 thousand US dollars on his head,” he added.

Tariq worked as chief TTP spokesman from 2009 until 2013 and was a close aide to former TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud who was killed in a US drone strike in Pakistan in 2013.

In 2009, Pakistani government offered $5 million for information leading to the capture of TTP commanders.
