Afghanistan records 56 new COVID-19 cases, 5 fatalities

KABUL: Five patients have lost their lives battling the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Monday. The number of total deaths jumped to 1425 since the outbreak of the pandemic started in the country around seven months ago.

With 56 fresh coronavirus cases, Afghanistan now officially has 38,772 positive cases.

According to the ministry, 30 cases were recorded in Herat, 11 in Badghis, seven in Balkh, two in Kabul, two in Kandahar, two in Daykundi and one case each in Kunduz and Maidan Wardak provinces.

According to the ministry, 435 covid-19 patients have recovered during the past 24 hours. The total recoveries exceeded 32,073.
