AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: As many as 20 people were wounded in a clash between two parties over land dispute in Balkh province, official sources said.
Chief of the provincial council Mohammad Ibrahim Khair said the clash took place on Sunday morning in Dash-e-Shadian area of the provincial capital, Mazar-e-Sharif. He said that several members of the Jamaat-e-Islami and Harakat Islami parties clashed over 500 acres of land and pelted stones at each other.
Police reached the spot to bring the situation under control. The scuffle forced the policemen to resort to aerial firing. Over 20 people were wounded in the clash, he added.
The provincial council chief said that nearly 14 years ago the two parties divided around 1,000 acres of land equally in Dasht-e-Shadian area but later Harakat Islami claimed that all land belonged to it. The case went to a court but ended up with no result as the two parties could not reach an agreement.
Khair alleged that some people were trying to turn the dispute into a serious political issue, therefore, he requested the concerned authorities to resolve the problem. He urged the two parties to resolve the issue through the country’s judicial system in an amicable way.
