AT-KABUL: Unknown armed men killed a policeman and his spouse in Shuhada district of Badakhshan province, police sources said on Sunday.
The provincial police chief, Col. Sakhi Dad Haidari, told media that unidentified assailants broke into the house of Noor Rehman and opened fire on the cop and his wife, Momina, in front of their children.
He said the cop was serving in the district.
Confirming the incident, the district chief, Mohammad Maroof Khairkhwa, said that the slain policeman was father-of-three.
Condemning the incident, the director of women’s affairs Zofnoon Hassam Natiq said the government should launch a probe to arrest the killers and give them exemplary punishment.
This is the third incident of killing women by unidentified gunmen in Badakhshan this year; though, the recent incident is linked to militancy. Militants are active in the province posing threats to civilians and government servants. Insurgents infiltrate from Pakistan without let or hindrance. According to intelligence reports, Pakistani officials have allowed the “good militants” to live in and operate from Pakistan.
