AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Some elements in Iran are in the quest to destroy Afghan-India Friendship Dam (Salma Dam) in western Herat province, said an official source.
Wali Muhammad Rashidi, the commander of the dam’s security, told reporters that they have seized 50 kilogram explosives in a truck near the dam. “Uniforms of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran and several walkie-talkies were also recovered from the truck,” he added.
He said that some elements in Iran wanted to destroy the dam by these explosives.
However, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that they stringent security measures had been put in place for the dam. General Abdul Razaq Saighani, an official in the MoI, told Azadi Radio that the ministry would not allow anyone to destroy the dam.
Saighani said that they have no concerns regarding security of the dam, because 300 troops they have some 300 troops to ensure foolproof security of the national project.
He didn’t mention Iran, but said that militants on the behest of the regional spy agencies are involved in such subversive activities in the country.
Some local officials in Herat said that Iran by creating insecurity want to hinder the project.
The Council of Ministers (CoM) recently changed the name of Salma Dam to Afghan-India Friendship Dam.
