AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has said free, fair and credible electoral process in the country would result in strengthening the security situations across the country.
The CEO said this during a meeting with representatives and experts of South Asian electoral bodies here in Kabul, a statement from his office said on Sunday.
The visiting delegation, having representation from South Asian countries is in Kabul to participate in the 8th successive meeting among election officials of South Asian states. This year, Kabul, being a chairman of the meeting is hosting the high-ranking delegation.
Najibullah Ahmadzai, Head of Independent Election Commission (IEC), said Afghanistan has to host the representatives of poll panels and watchdogs for about three days. He added meetings with international experts and counterparts would provide a valuable opportunity to IEC officials to enhance their knowledge and skills.
The CEO was optimistic in meetings among the election watchdogs in order to improve social connectivity and partnership. He went on saying that the meeting is of tremendous importance for Afghanistan as the country system is going to hold elections for provincial councils, Wolesi Jirga, including presidential within the next two years.
Election is a formal group decision-making process and the usual mechanism by which modern representative democracy has been operated since the 17th century. Afghanistan has been entered into representative democracy which calls for collective wisdom, tolerance, fairness and vigilance to nurture it in a meaningful way. The government has to take required actions regarding electoral reforms to pay way to fairness and effectiveness of the existing system. Our country is a combination of multi ethnic populations which is the beauty of Afghanistan. It is the representative democracy with fair process and strong institutions to strengthen our national unity in diversity.
