KABUL: A terrorist allegedly planned to assassinate a religious scholar was arrested in western Herat province, security officials said on Monday.

The Afghan National Police arrested the suspect who wanted to assassinate a scholar by gunshot in PD 6th of Herat city, Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

It is worth mentioning that recently the terrorists beside security forces and civilians, have also started targeting Ulemas as in the past three months a number of high profile religious scholars in different provinces were targeted and killed. Two prominent religious scholars were also shot dead in Kabul.
