AT-KABUL:  The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) had launched an offensive to retake Ghormach district of Faryab province from the Taliban insurgents, sources said on Saturday.

Security forces had launched the operation to clear the district of insurgents. Tens of Taliban fighters were killed and several others wounded during the operation.

Raza Razai, a military spokesman in the north of the country, said the ANSF had retaken control of the district after launching successful operation the other day.  The operation was codenamed “Sword Fifteen”.

He told media that during the operation some of the Taliban commanders were also killed. The operation is still continued.

However, he did not provide any information about casualties suffered by the security forces. But, he confirmed that two out of three villages in Ghormach are still controlled by the insurgent group.

A few months ago, the Taliban had attacked the market area of Ghormach district and seized control of important buildings.
