Taliban attack check-posts in Baghlan

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Hundreds of Taliban militants attacked several check post in Dahana-e-Ghori district of northern Baghlan province, provincial officials said Wednesday.

“The Taliban attacked the district early today and fighting between militants and government forces are continuing,” the official told Xinhua news agency.

According to the official who declined to be named, Taliban militants have overrun four police checkpoints and the attacking insurgents are attempting to capture the district headquarters.

However, locals in Dahna-e-Ghori in talks with Xinhua confirmed Taliban’s attack, saying 20 local policemen under Nik Mohammad joined the advancing militants.

Moreover, the provincial council officials have warned that the district would collapse to the Taliban hands, if additional troops were not dispatched to the area as soon as possible.

It is worth mentioning that the district was once cleared of insurgents. Baghlan police officials in that time said that Taliban insurgents were suffered heavy casualties during the clashes in Dahana-e-Ghori and Dand-e-Shahabuddin districts of the province.

Clearance operation was carried in Baghlan after concerns raised that the Taliban group preparing for spring offensive where they mulled to create sanctuaries in the province. However, the Afghan security forces had inflicted heavy casualties to the Taliban and push them back from the province.
