KABUL: The Taliban insurgents have killed 2,219 civilians and wounded 5,172 others in 2019, the ministry of interior said on Friday.
The casualties came as a result of suicide bombings, guerrilla attacks, land mines and armed attacks, the ministry added in a statement.
The ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure the safety of the Afghan masses, but expressed concern over the losses of civilians at the hand of the Taliban.
It is a war crime; the ministry said, referring to the civilian casualties. “The terrorists will soon be held accountable for their crimes against civilians.”
So far the Taliban did not comment on the ministry’s statement.
Fighting between Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents remained unabated despite ongoing peace talks to find a political settlement to the Afghan conflict.
