20 terrorist cells operating in Afghanistan, Russia warns

AT News

KABUL – Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has issued a dire warning, revealing that an alarming 20 terrorist cells, comprising over 23,000 fighters, are currently active within Afghanistan’s borders.

Speaking at the sixth multilateral meeting of Security Council Secretaries on Afghanistan in Bishkek, Patrushev attributed the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan to past U.S. policies, as reported by Interfax Kazakhstan. The meeting, attended by key stakeholders, emphasized the critical need for enhanced collaboration to address the escalating threat posed by these terrorist networks.

Amidst the power vacuum left by the collapse of the previous Afghan government, concerns have mounted regarding the resurgence of extremist groups like al-Qaeda. Patrushev’s assertion underscores the urgent imperative for coordinated action to stem the tide of terrorism.

There have been allegations of the Taliban providing shelter to al-Qaeda affiliates, although the Taliban has vehemently denied such claims, asserting that Afghanistan’s territory will not be utilized for attacks against other nations. However, Patrushev’s stark revelation casts doubt on these assurances, raising profound concerns for global security.

As the world grapples with the evolving situation in Afghanistan, Patrushev’s warning serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent imperative for collaborative efforts to address the growing menace of terrorism.
